The Solution to the Perplexing Problem of No Website Visitors

The Solution to the Perplexing Problem of No Website Visitors

It’s disappointing, isn’t it? Not having any visitors to your website.

You invest time and money into building a website. It finally goes live.

And nobody visits it.

You have no traffic, no visitors. You’re not getting any customers or even calls from your website.

What’s going on?

Maybe you blame the web designer. After all, who wants to visit an ugly site? Or perhaps your site loads slowly. Or your hosting provider is down a lot.

Or maybe your home page isn’t informative enough, or you haven’t bothered to refresh your content.

Those things could be the problem.

But maybe you have invested in your site. You’ve got a fast loading, mobile-optimized site full of great content. You’ve got beautiful images and easy navigation.

But still no visitors. You’re perplexed. Stumped. Why no traffic?

Well, the mere fact that you put up a website is not enough for you to attract new customers and business to your company.

Think about how many hundreds of thousands of websites there are out there on the internet. And how many there are just for your specific market, product, or service.

Even if you’re locally based, there’s a lot of competition out there. Whether you’re a plumber, a florist, or a dentist, many others are competing for the same customers.

How many dentists exist in your city? Hundreds, maybe? And they all probably have websites of their own.

Just putting up a website won’t be enough to bring you, new customers.

You Need More than Just a Website to Get Traffic

You won’t get more visitors without an online marketing strategy.

You see, your website is only a tool to expose your product or your service. To make it work, you need a strategy that will bring you traffic to that website.

If you are marketing to an email list or doing a radio campaign or SEO, you’re doing content marketing, which will only go so far.

What you don’t have is something to increase awareness of your website and drive traffic to it. And without the traffic, you won’t gain any new customers.

This is where many business owners go wrong. They think they’ve spent two or more months on their website and got it up and running. And it looks great. Why isn’t that enough? Why isn’t it doing anything for us?

That’s the reason there is no traffic. Since the business owners feel their websites aren’t doing anything for them, they aren’t getting a return on their investment. So, they don’t invest in driving traffic to the website.
.
And, of course, if they aren’t attracting website visitors, the site won’t generate any leads or sales. It’s only the medium to expose the information about the business, product, or service.

Without something to drive traffic, you’ll never realize the potential your website can be as a tool to build your business. And to get traffic, you need to consider five sources of traffic.

Five Sources of Traffic

Direct Traffic:

This happens when people type the name of your business into the search bar. These are the people who already know about you, perhaps previous customers or people who heard of you through word of mouth.

Linked traffic:

This is traffic that found you through social media posts that relate to your site

Referral traffic:

This is traffic that found your website through referral sites like Yelp.

While those three are good sources of traffic, they will not generate the most traffic for you. You’ll want to focus your strategy on these two sources:

Organic traffic:

These people found you because they went online and searched for a product or service, and Google served your website up at the top of the search results.

When you end up at the top of the search results, it’s not by accident or luck. It’s because, most likely, an SEO specialist optimized your website for particular keywords that relate to your product or service. Your site’s content was highly relevant to those keywords, so Google’s algorithm decides your site is most likely what the person searching wants to find.

Paid Traffic:

This is traffic that found you through keyword ads. When you use this strategy, you choose the most relevant keywords to your business and the products or services you are selling.

Using organic and paid search together can be a powerful way of driving traffic to your site. The data you can collect from your paid ad campaigns will help you refine how you optimize your website for organic search.

But these strategies will only work if you carefully develop a plan for how you will implement them. You’ll need to understand how people search for products or services like yours and what needs they are looking to meet.

If you have a website that you believe isn’t doing all it can for you, audit your analytics. See how much traffic, how many phone calls, emails, or form submissions you receive from your website. That will help you decide what the best way to bring traffic to your site is.

If you don’t know how to do that, it’s not hard to learn some of the strategies so you can do it yourself. We have many articles and resources here on our website that will teach you how to audit your analytics and figure out how to drive traffic to your site.

Or, if you’d rather not spend the time yourself, you can hire a consultant, like us. We’ve helped hundreds of business owners develop and implement a plan to drive traffic, increase awareness of their brands and products, and generate more sales.

But without reviewing your analytics and developing a plan to drive traffic, your site will not be sending you leads and customers. And it will be doing nothing to increase your sales and profits.

Remember the old saying; if you build it, they will come? Well, that doesn’t work in the online world.

Building a site is one thing. Driving traffic is another. And without traffic, your site will be like a pretty brochure that no one looks at. But an online marketing strategy will drive traffic and visitors to your site. And that’s how your business will grow.
